It has been founded the April of 2011 in Trento with the main objective of develop research, innovation and postgraduate training in this field, exploiting the internal existing know-how and the experiences coming from leading local research organizations as the University of Trento and the Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK), and the other innovative players and companies on the territory.
The partnership of Telecom Italia SKIL Lab, with the Italian EIT KIC ICT node and with the Semantic Valley consortium fits in this perspective of contributing to the creation of a productive technological ecosystem, where the territory of the Province of Trento plays the role of a privileged context for innovation and technological trials.
In particular, the SKIL Lab promotes the study and research in the ICT action lines promoted by the EIT, most focusing on: Health & Wellbeing (e.g. tourism, assistance of elder-people), Smart & Digital Cities, Future Media & Content Delivery.
The focus is on those semantic technologies, which allows to interpret and exploit the information coming from the Web and, more importantly, coming directly from many other sources of data spread on the territory, such as: living data from utilities and companies, mobile devices, environmental, domestic or personal sensors, and others.
SKIL Lab's main expertise are in the areas of: Data and Text Mining, Human Computer Interaction, Knowledge Reasoning and Representation, further than acting as a link for all the research groups of Telecom Italia in the national territory.
